Giunti Odeon pays tribute to one of the most important writers of the Italian 20th century, Mario Tobino. The documentary film Mario Tobino: per le antiche mura, through the memory of his granddaughter Isabella, recounts the figure of the Tuscan writer (and psychiatrist). A man who lived and worked in Lucca's psychiatric hospital from 1942 until his retirement in 1980. It was within those ancient walls that, thanks to his great ‘therapeutic love’ for ‘his madmen’, his novels, among the truest and most important of 20th century Italian literature, came to life. In particular, the experience of working in an asylum can be read in the pages of: Le libere donne di Magliano (1953); Per le antiche scale (1972); Gli ultimi giorni di Magliano (1982); Il Manicomio di Pechino (1990).
