Giunti Odeon presents one of the greatest masterpieces of Japanese animated cinema. The Angel's Egg, which tells the story of a girl who guards a mysterious egg in a desolate world and, after meeting an enigmatic traveller, embarks on a symbolic and visionary journey, arrives in a splendid new 4K restored version, created from the original 35mm materials, which made its debut a few months ago at the last Cannes Film Festival in the Cannes Classics section. Director and screenwriter Mamoru Oshii is the acclaimed author of Ghost in the Shell, an anime that in 1995 pushed the representation of aesthetics and the construction of the imaginary world of the cyberpunk genre a little further. The Angel's Egg was released ten years earlier, in 1985, representing one of the first milestones of Japanese animation on the big screen.
