Giunti Odeon presents the grand finale of its comprehensive retrospective dedicated to David Lynch, with Inland Empire, his latest film, re-released for the occasion exactly 20 years after its theatrical release. In an elegant residential neighbourhood located in a valley on the outskirts of Los Angeles, a woman is in trouble. She is in love and surrounded by a thick aura of mystery. Her story will intertwine with that of an actor who has just been chosen to play the role of a southern gentleman in a major production... Inland Empire is not a coherent, linear film with a definable beginning and end, but is first and foremost a sensory experience. It is the free flow of an artist's thoughts, requiring no explanation, only intuition and personal emotions, whether positive or negative. One could talk about parallel worlds, reality and fiction merging, meeting and parting ways, cinema and television (and film and digital), and the concept of time as non-sequential, random and absolute.
