Giunti Odeon presents the fourth and final appointment of the “Marilyn 100” retrospective, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s birth (June 1, 1926), with The Misfits, one of John Huston’s masterpieces. Immediately after signing the papers to finalize her divorce, the beautiful Roslyn Taber meets a gambling-loving cowboy, Gay Langland, and a former pilot, Guido Racanelli. The two men fall in love with the young woman at first sight, and the three of them decide to move in together in a house in the desert. It is the era in which Marilyn seeks controversial support for her mental decline in Paula Strasberg, Lee’s wife and a teacher at the Actor’s Studio; Montgomery Clift, though in a somewhat limited role, is magnificent in his aged innocence (amidst some Oedipal issues). Arthur Miller writes for a wife he is leaving, and Russell Metty delivers breathtaking cinematography.
