Thursday, February 20, we will present Il cibo a pezzi (Bompiani) together with the three authors: Vincenzo Gesmundo, Roberto Weber, and Felice Adinolfi.
Since the time of Socrates, the symposium has been a moment of profound nourishment—for both the body and the ever-curious spirit. Today, more than ever, the act of eating is at the center not only of our individual lives but also of the complex economic, strategic, and ethical dynamics that will shape the future of our planet.
Through a discussion rich in data, examples, and diverse perspectives, these pages explore food in all its facets: from new technological frontiers in nutrition to the urgent need to protect biodiversity. The book presents a strong thesis: food is at the heart of an ongoing battle between two opposing production models, each rooted in a distinct vision of society, health, and democracy.
Vincenzo Gesmundo, Secretary General of Coldiretti—the largest agricultural organization in Italy and Europe—Roberto Weber, pollster and president of the Ixè Institute, and Felice Adinolfi, professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of Bologna, bring their expertise together in a thought-provoking reflection on the present. Page after page, their work becomes a passionate appeal for the future—a future we can shape through our food choices, responsible use of technology, and political decisions.
The book concludes with a reflection by Massimo Cacciari, who takes a philosophical perspective, reminding us of the mythical and sacred essence of nourishment.
Vincenzo Gesmundo is the Secretary General of the National Confederation Coldiretti, the largest agricultural organization in Italy and Europe. With a background in philosophy and journalism, he later specialized in labor and agricultural trade union issues. Upon joining Coldiretti, he played a key role in transforming the organization and strengthening Italian agriculture, forging a new bond between farmers and consumers.
Roberto Weber is a pollster and president of the Ixè Institute, conducting research and consultancy on public opinion trends, editorial communication, and political marketing. With extensive experience in public opinion studies, social values, and politics, he was a co-founder of the Swg Institute, where he served as president until 2013. He is also a columnist for Il Piccolo in Trieste and a frequent guest on various news programs.
Felice Adinolfi is a full professor of Agricultural Economics and Appraisal at the University of Bologna. His research focuses on agricultural and food policy, risk management in the agri-food sector, and agricultural innovation. He has participated in numerous national and international research programs and is a member of various scientific and editorial committees.
